The NTA has recently expanded the Independent Travel Support scheme to include
Louth, Meath and Fingal with TFI Local Link Louth Meath Fingal delivering this great
service!
Originally established in Dublin, the free service supports adults aged 18 and over
with additional needs to develop the skills required to use the TFI public transport
network independently. The expansion will allow more people across the region to
benefit from the programme and access opportunities within their communities,
ensuring more people can travel safely, confidently, and independently.
The scheme offers one-to-one support from our dedicated travel support officer,
Olwen McGuinness, who works closely with participants as they learn to plan and
complete their journeys. Olwen accompanies individuals on their route, providing
practical guidance and reassurance until participants are confident to travel alone.
“I am delighted to join the team as the new Independent Travel Support Officer
covering the Louth, Meath, and Fingal areas. With over 30 years of experience
supporting people with intellectual disabilities, I am deeply passionate about helping
individuals build confidence, develop new skills, and achieve greater independence.
I strongly believe that access to public transport can open doors to opportunities,
connection, and community involvement. I look forward to working closely with the
people we support, empowering them to travel safely and confidently while reaching
their personal goals.” – Olwen McGuinness, Independent Travel Support Officer at
TFI Local Link Louth Meath Fingal
