Independent Travel Support
What Is Independent Travel support?
- The Independent Travel Support (ITS), service, formerly known as Travel Assistance Scheme, assists passengers with additional needs to develop skills to use the Transport for Ireland (TFI) public transport independently.
- An ITS assistant will travel with you and train you how to travel independently, until you are confident to travel alone.
- The Independent Travel Support service started in Dublin 15 years ago and helped people get to the most important destination of all … Freedom.
- The NTA have now expanded it to Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford and now Louth, Meath and Fingal
- The ITS service is free of charge and is available to people aged eighteen and over.
Olwen's Bio
My name is Olwen McGuinness, and I am delighted to join the team as the new Travel Training Support Officer covering the Louth, Meath, and Fingal areas. With over 30 years of experience supporting people with intellectual disabilities, I am deeply passionate about helping individuals build confidence, develop new skills, and achieve greater independence. I strongly believe that access to public transport can open doors to opportunities, connection, and community involvement. I look forward to working closely with the people we support, empowering them to travel safely and confidently while reaching their personal goals.
